🌦️ Summary of “A Letter to God”
The story “A Letter to God” written by G.L. Fuentes is about a farmer named Lencho, who has complete faith in God.
He lives with his family on a small hill and depends on his crops for his livelihood.
Lencho hopes for rain to make his crops grow. When it begins to rain, he feels happy and compares the raindrops to new coins — silver and gold. But soon the rain turns into a hailstorm, destroying his entire field of corn. Lencho becomes sad and hopeless.
Still, Lencho has unshakable faith in God. He writes a letter to God, asking for 100 pesos to sow his field again and survive until the next harvest. The postmaster, touched by his faith, decides to help. He collects money from his colleagues and sends 70 pesos to Lencho, signing the letter as “God.”
When Lencho receives the money, he is not surprised — he trusts that God sent it. However, when he finds only 70 pesos instead of 100, he becomes angry and writes another letter to God, complaining that the post office employees must have stolen the rest.
